Vacuum Excavation Project: Exposing Ductworks In Liverpool

PIER (UK) worked with city contractors to expose gas, electric, water and telecommunication cables underneath a pavement in Liverpool on a 2016 Vacuum Excavation project.

The pavement needed to be dug up for new phone cables to be installed but with a number of lines already under the surface as well as street lighting and traffic lights, Vacuum Excavation was the best choice to safely expose the cables with minimum risk of disruption.

The precision, no-dig approach eliminates almost all risk regarding strikes to the service lines. There are up to 60,000 services every year (Clyde & Co) with an average costing of £7,000 per strike (USAG). Vacuum Excavation is not only the safest method, but also the smartest and most economically friendly.

Within a single day’s work, the Vacuum Excavator exposed the ductworks and the installation of the new lines was still on schedule which meant that our team successfully completed another Vacuum Excavation project.
