About Us
PIER (UK) Ltd was established in 2001 as a civil engineering and drainage business. In 2009, we started to provide vacuum excavation services to our customers and in 2012, after recognising the many safety benefits it held over more traditional excavation methods, we ceased providing civil engineering services to concentrate solely on vacuum excavation hire.With continuous investment in our hire fleet, we became the market leaders in vacuum excavation in 2015 and have not looked back since.
We work across the civil engineering, construction, transport, and utility industries on both public and private projects. We support planned maintenance, improvement works, emergency repairs and other development projects. 2001
- PIER (UK) Ltd established in Cricket Street, Wigan providing civil engineering and drainage works.
2002
- Undertook large scale drainage project in Manchester.
2005
- Worked on a large drainage project for a major supermarket.
2007
- Continued to provide drainage works, this time to a large high school.
- Continued providing drainage works to Failsworth School in Manchester.
2008
- Hired first vacuum excavator to safely excavate ground on large road infrastructure project. Job completed without striking a single utility.
- Impressed with its safe excavation capabilities, PIER (UK) Ltd purchased and took delivery of their first vacuum excavator.
2010
- Proving a popular excavation choice with customers, PIER (UK) Ltd purchase additional vacuum excavators to add to their plant fleet.
- To support safe excavation, PIER (UK) Ltd add ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys to their services.
2011
- PIER (UK) Ltd celebrate their 10th Anniversary.
2012
- PIER (UK) Ltd cease all civil engineering and drainage works to focus solely on vacuum excavation hire.
- Having continued to grow the vacuum excavator hire fleet, PIER (UK) ltd move to larger premises at Junction Lane, Newton-le-Willows.
2015
- Purpose designed and built workshop opened on-site to service and maintain the growing vacuum excavator fleet.
- With year on year fleet purchases, PIER (UK) Ltd becomes the largest vacuum excavation hire provider in the UK.
2016
- Further fleet purchases and acquisition places PIER (UK) Ltd as the largest vacuum excavation hire provider across Europe.
- PIER (UK) Ltd proudly takes delivery of its 30th vacuum excavator and celebrates 8 years in vacuum excavation.
2016-2017
- Our special pink truck was out across the UK in 2016, raising money for UK cancer charities – with an amazing £9,650 raised.
2017
- Pier took delivery of 4 new vacuum excavators, retaining our position as the largest hire fleet in Europe.
2018
- PIER (UK) Ltd introduce the UK’s first Tracked-Vac, an off-road vacuum excavation vehicle designed to travel over almost any terrain.
- We celebrated the 10th Anniversary of our first vac-ex by taking delivery of our 42nd.
2019
- Business moved into purpose built offices to accommodate our growing team
2020
- PIER (UK) Ltd announce a significant expansion to our fleet taking the number of vacuum excavation units to over 50.
- Achieved a 100% in both Health & Safety and Environmental following an Achilles Audit.
2020
- PIER (UK) Ltd took delivery of a special gold excavator that marked the 1,000th excavator that manufacturer MTS had produced.
2021
- PIER (UK) Ltd celebrate 20 years in business.
