Vacuum Excavation Project: Airport Expansion

PIER (UK) were called in for their expertise for a Vacuum Excavation project as a new customer wanted to provide a safe solution for an ongoing airport expansion.

With new sites and developments taking place around the area, our operators were tasked with locating existing active drain pipes that were located on-site, but as they weren’t visible on the map, this made the job a little more complex and intricate.

The proximity to the airport control tower also made the job to be very sensitive, with a number of unrecorded services within the area of the site. Even with the site being a modern development, the risk of a strike had to be managed as this could have had a huge impact on the airport.

However, our trained operators were able to successfully complete the job within a single day and our team were thrilled to learn that the customer was highly impressed after viewing a Vacuum Excavator in action.

The precision, no-dig approach eliminates almost all risk regarding strikes to the service lines. There are up to 60,000 services every year (Clyde & Co) with an average costing of £7,000 per strike (USAG). Vacuum Excavation is not only the safest method, but also the smartest and most economically friendly.
