On the 23rd December 2016, PIER (UK) celebrates 8 years in Vacuum Excavation and are now the UK’s leading hire provider for an array of companies.

PIER (UK) was originally set up in 2001 to provide customers with drainage services. During this time, we hired a Vacuum Excavation system to expose buried utilities in a heavily congested area on a road widening scheme for one of the UK’s largest Civil Engineering companies. Immediately, we saw the benefits of Vacuum Excavation, so there was no hesitation, and we immediately purchased one.

On the 23rd December 2008, Sean Quinn (Managing Director) took delivery of our first Vacuum Excavator and with the demand for the specialist equipment quickly growing, we began to put a plan in place to sell and support our new service.

By early 2010, we had introduced our second and third Vacuum Excavators and since then, we have continued to invest year-on-year.

Acquisition for Growth

Over the years, PIER (UK) have continued to expand their hire fleet size and by 2015, we become the largest Vacuum Excavation hire provider in the UK.

February 2016 was one of the most interesting months yet with our team making a big step to purchase the assets of U-Mole, a one-time dealer of Vacuum Excavators and a division of VP Plc. With this purchase, our status stepped up and raised us to the position of the largest operator in Europe.

We continued with our original planned orders throughout the year prior to the U-Mole purchased, and we have now received our 30th Vacuum Excavator.

“The 30th Vacuum Excavator is yet more evidence that contractors and utility providers are putting safety at the forefront of their operations. We will endeavour to continue promoting Vacuum Excavation as a better and much safer practice. With this in mind, we have more orders in place to expand our hire fleet.”
— Sean Quinn, Managing Director.

Investing in Infrastructure for Growth

To be in control of our service and maintenance, we have designed and constructed a purpose-built workshop and parts storage bay. The workshop consists of a range of modern machines for the refurbishment of the wear parts with which we can manufacture and install ourselves.

To assist this further, we have reconfigured our previous workshop to carry out resprays of the trucks with our very own in-house body repair and spray technician.

To enable us to mark 8 successful years in Vacuum Excavation, we would like to thank every single one of our customers for their continued support, and we are looking forward to working together on more projects in the many years to come.
