The Problem: When Access Is Limited

Vacuum excavation is an effective way to expose underground utilities safely, but not every site offers the space needed to position a vacuum excavation vehicle directly alongside the excavation area.

On a new housing development in Warwickshire, the team faced exactly this challenge. The work needed to be carried out down the side of a property, where the restricted and narrow access made it difficult to position the vehicle close to the excavation location.

With existing underground services to consider, the team needed a practical solution that would allow the excavation to be completed while helping to minimise the risk of damage to surrounding utilities.

The Solution: Flexible Vacuum Excavation with Pier

Rather than allowing the access restrictions to become a barrier to progress, Pier adapted its approach to suit the site.

By using an extension pipe connected to the vacuum excavation vehicle, the operator was able to run the pipework down the side of the property and reach the required excavation area without needing to position the vehicle directly alongside it.

This allowed the team to expose the underground utilities while working around the physical limitations of the site.

The solution demonstrated how vacuum excavation can be adapted to suit challenging working environments, helping contractors access areas where conventional vehicle positioning may not be practical.
